If you have ever wondered what breeds are hidden inside your best friend, a dog DNA test can reveal the answers. With so many different types of dogs, hybrids, and mixed breeds there is no way one can really tell just by sight. Features can be deceiving. It is always a good idea to find out what your dog thinks he is meant to do in life and the paperwork can come in handy if breed specific legislation ever hits your area.

Uncovering the hidden breeds inside your pup can be a lot of fun. It does not matter whether he is young or old or if he is new to the family or has been around for years. Behaviors like circle walking or chasing small creatures can often become clearly explained when you have the results in front of you. A portion of his personality is made up by experience and the other part is made up by inherited traits.

The breeding of dogs began so that each different type could serve a different purpose. Herding dogs still have the desire to herd in their nature and will round up family members. Terriers are prone to having a prey drive that is higher than most because of their lineage. Understanding his different breed structure can help you devise a plan to make him feel more satisfied with the work that he wants to do.

Build traits that you already see. Just because a certain breed shows up on the results does not mean that your pup will act in accordance to all aspects of those breeds. There is a chance your lab might not like water. Avoid trying to turn him into a textbook specimen and focus on developing the behaviors you already see into positive behaviors.

Some results are not going to be absolutely perfect, although many are dead on. For instance, there is often difficulty discerning between a Springer Spaniel and a Water Spaniel. These are so closely related that often it is almost impossible to tell which is which as a secondary breed. Breaking the breeds down becomes more challenging as there are more added to the same animal, although it can be done.

Having the results is an excellent way to keep the family dog out of breed specific legislation issues. This refers to the introduction of laws that ban certain kinds of dogs. It is nearly impossible to visually tell apart certain members of the bully breeds and many get labeled as "pit bull type dogs" when in fact they do not have any true bully in them. This is a big part of the dispute and you do not want to find your dog is a victim.

Families have found it to be literally life saving for their dogs. The rest of the family was spared the emotional catastrophe and the dog was permitted to live at home. The nature of the legislature is controversial based on the fact that it often requires testing to determine what type of dog one really is.

A dog DNA test can take a few weeks to successfully run. You may wish to get the required samples sent as soon as possible so that you not only have plenty of knowledge and information on hand but you have evidence of what breeds actually make up your best buddy. The sooner you put the information to good use, the more fulfilled your pup will be. Old or young, you can always help him achieve the goals he was meant to simply by knowing what it is he was meant to achieve.
